Museum to me was a mere routine place to visit, rather than an appreciation of art and history. I have never thought about how it became so famous that people from generation to generation would save and cherish it at all costs, until 2017.

I went to Spain as an exchange student in mid-2017, and it opened Pandora’s box unexpectedly. Before this voyage, I completed all the undergraduate credits. So the whole year in Spain was a perfect chance to occasionally skip classes, travel around Europe and explore the wonders. Da Vinci, Goya, Dalí were the famous artists whose artworks were literally in front of me, and I was so amused by the conversations and culture around them, and of course, only museums could make that possible.

I took “Historia de Arte II” in 2018, a start of the journey to understand artists and their works, and made myself an apprentice. We traveled from one museum to another. When I stood in front of the artworks I knew, I felt the distance, despite years of history they passed, was getting closer and closer, as friends who I could talk to. Art history, to me, was the very first touch of art.

En voyage art is a path to appreciate humanity. Every artist has witnessed a part of history. They put in their emotions and inspirations from life to the artworks, having their own characters and styles moving around. I can hear the voice and see the moments, distance away and centuries ago, from the artwork in front. From them, my thoughts and feelings echo the story and stay only between us. This reminds me of The Three-Body Problem, when humanity is about to face the apocalypse, humans decide to keep Classic of Poetry, the story of Alexander the Great, sculptures and paintings in the museum, not on Earth, but on Pluto, as the final piece, the graveyard of humanity. Buying a book, a photo or an artwork that depicts a period of history will certainly not make us rich, but upon the apocalypse, they are the things we cherish and value more than our lives — this is the power of art, history, and culture we the people built.

Art is just here. It is not abstract or distant, in contrast, it is here with us — we are part of the art, and art is part of us.

I decided to build Artlytics, a platform for shareable ideas and thoughts about art. Here, we will make art closer using simple languages, accurate diagrams, and interesting statistics to showcase art as a common language of humanity.
